When the Weekly Photo Challenge theme Layers was announced today, I immediately thought of a series of photos I recently took in Nepal of dancers performing a traditional dance. It was mesmerizing to watch them, their colorful costumes so rich in detail and contrast, their bodies flowing gracefully through the complicated dance steps. These young Nepali dancers produced gorgeous layers of color and movement that these photographs cannot truly capture.
I couldn’t decide which photo to use for the Challenge, but I did succeed in narrowing it down to two.
Which photo would you have picked?

I think the top one fits the theme a little bit better. Both are beautiful!

Yes! That is the photo I immediately thought of, but then I looked at some of the other photos in the series – which complicated the matter. What I love about the second picture is the detail in the jewelry and headpieces. Thanks so much for your comment, randee!

With the top one, I found myself wanting to see more of the women. The bottom one seemed more complete on its own.
However, if I were you, I would have posted both plus one more… but that’s just because I like the photos.

bumblepuppies – I DID almost post a third, a photo which showed the schoolchildren watching behind the dancers. That depicted “layers”, too! Thanks for your comment!

Thank you! That was my instinct, too. But it is so hard to decide with photos, isn’t it? Thanks for your comment, wisemonkeysabroad!

Yes , it is hard choosing a photo for these challenges but thats a major reason we love these challenges – it really gets us looking back at the photos we taken & really see them with different eyes and interpretations.
Also thank you kindly for stopping by our blog & also for following us! Look forward to reading your posts too!
