The WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: The Sign Says this week hit right smack dab on one of my favorite hobbies. Wherever I go in the world, I take pictures of interesting signs that I see. Here is a sampling of my collection:
Some are hilarious signs I have spotted in bathrooms. (And it’s worth noting that I have been accidentally locked in a bathroom on every continent but Australia and Antarctica.)
Question: To flush or not to flush?

Kathmandu, Nepal
Answer: DO NOT FLUSH! DO NOT FLUSH! PANTHERS IN THE BATHROOM!

USE THE TRASH CAN FOR ALL PANTHERS! I REPEAT:

At times, signs can be very clear and direct.
CAUTION! GROWN UPS!
Accra, Ghana
Relax.
Minneapolis, MN USA
Other times? Well, everyone could use a good editor.

Zanzibar, Tanzania

Delhi, India
But my favorite signs are those that inspire me.

Kathmandu, Nepal

Yaounde, Cameroon

New Delhi, India

What a great opportunity for you to show off those signs – I really liked them. The Gandhi quotes were new for me – I hadn’t seen those before and enjoyed reflecting on them for a few minutes. The two boys with the oversize glasses was the one that made me laugh though. Are those your boys? And how have you managed to get yourself accidentally locked in a bathroom on nearly every continent? That’s a pretty good trick!
And as long as I’m being nosy, I don’t quite the first one. Why is there a question as whether or not to flush? Inquiring minds want to know 🙂

Yep, those are my two sons. We were waiting to get their haircut before the first day of school and went into the dollar store next door. They couldn’t resist those glasses! They did not notice the sign over them on the wall. As to getting locked in the bathroom, it has just been my bad luck (and poor locking mechanisms, I guess). As for the first sign, I don’t read Nepali so can’t tell you what the sign says. It just raised the question for me – should I flush? Or not? (I did not – I’ve learned that when in doubt, don’t flush!) Thanks for your questions and glad you liked the Gandhi quote.

A wonderful collage but I have to stick with the Panthers as my favourite.

That sign was in the bathroom of the US Embassy in Kathmandu, if you can believe it!

Love Gandhi’s quote and the Women Empowering Organization quote! Thanks for sharing.
Also, you do have a good collection of different types of signs!

Jennifer, Your signs are wonderful. I think my favorite is the Panthers sign – it will stay with me always. One of my all-time faves was in front of a US school and read, “Drug Free Zone – No Dogs Allowed” and someone had written below “Ergo, Dogs Do Drugs!” It still makes me smile. 🙂 All the best, Terri
